...Phoenix Vice Mayor Williams will lead tree planting ceremony
PHOENIX, Arizona (February 9, 2011) – City of Phoenix Vice Mayor Thelda Williams will lead a “Healing Trees” ceremony at Cesar Chavez Plaza across from City Hall in downtown Phoenix on Monday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. Healing Trees is a humanitarian program to plant trees in the wake of the Tucson tragedies last month.
Two 24-inch box Blue Palo Verde trees will be planted at Cesar Chavez Plaza across from Phoenix City Hall on Monday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. The trees are being donated and DLC Resources is donating their services to dig holes for the trees. The Blue Palo Verde is the Arizona state tree and February 14, Arizona Statehood Day, is Arizona's 99th birthday.
Olivia Calderon, a world-renowned mariachi soloist, will sing during the ceremony, which will feature other community members as participants as well. Additional information will be posted at healingtrees.org
“This tree planting is a step to heal and unite our community. This is our time to do something significant to celebrate life and promote new growth — like planting trees. Through this a life-giving and earth-serving community act, together we can offer remembrance and be an instrument of peace and compassion in the community,” said Annie Loyd of Healing Trees.

As a direct response to the Tucson incidents of January 8, the Healing Trees Humanitarian Program was developed to "Heal Our Communities, Offer Remembrance and Celebrate Life." The FUSION Foundation, the Arizona Community Tree Council and Trees for Tucson | Tucson Clean and Beautiful are working together to provide visual life-giving memorials to commemorate the lives of those who died and honor those who were injured in Tucson on January 8. The first tree planting will be held at Creative Living Fellowship on Sunday, February 13 at 1:00 p.m. Four other planting are scheduled for February 14: one at Khalsa Montessori School in Tucson at 9:00 a.m., one at Lowell Elementary School in Phoenix at 10:00 a.m., one at Red Rock High School in Sedona at 10:00 a.m., and one at Crittenton Youth Academy in Phoenix at 12:30.

Cultural Arts Coalition Partners with Healing Trees
Since ancient human history, people have had a need to represent their beliefs, values and emotions in physical, artistic forms taking the shape of symbols, symbolic objects and performance. These metaphors can be more powerful than language as a means of communication. The Cultural Arts Coalition believes that everyone can use the arts to Reflect, Express and Discover. Every person can Create, regardless of age, economics, social position, education, geography, gender, culture, or any other aspect of human existence. In this purposeful manner of art making, the value of the created object is in the one who created it. The object is a representation of its maker. Practitioners with the Cultural Arts Coalition use art making and cultural forms as modalities to enrich the life journey of every person, individually and in community.
The act of gardening, the planting of the trees, is also considered a creative expression that links us all to the concept of the interconnectedness of all life. Purposeful manner of art making, the value of the created object is in the one who created it. In this case the planting is also an ongoing nurturing act~ a metaphor for our personal linage-our family tree, the nurturing and love for our family and those in our community. It is the intention of the Cultural Arts Coalition that an interdisciplinary curriculum about the protection of our environment is also promoted and celebrated with the planting of our trees.

Gardens for Humanity Partners with Healing Trees
Founded in 1996, Gardens for Humanity has worked for ecological education to help give our children and all members of our community the values, tools and experiences needed to seek and regain balance with the natural world.
We are participating in the Healing Trees Project by spreading the word amongst schools and community organizations serving as a resource for planting healing trees in our area. We will also provide notice and a link to the Healing Trees Project on our web site (in progress).

PHOENIX, Arizona (February 3, 2011) – Creative Living Fellowship will be the site of the first tree planting for Healing Trees, a humanitarian program to plant trees following the shootings in Tucson last month.
“This tree planting will heal and unite our community. This is our time to do something significant to celebrate life and promote new growth — like planting trees. Through this a life-giving and earth-serving community act, together we can make a difference,” said Annie Loyd of Healing Trees.
A 15-gallon mesquite tree will be planted at Creative Living Fellowship on Sunday, February 13 at 1:00 p.m. Lynn Rocha, a general contractors' specialist with McGraw Hill publications and a community shaman with SpiritKeepers, is underwriting the purchase of the tree from Baker Nurseries. Greg Peterson, founder of Urban Farms and a member of Creative Living Fellowship, will plant a native mesquite. Peterson selected the mesquite because its pods are edible. “You can make flour and all kinds of breads from the mesquite pods as well as mesquite syrup. You can also burn mesquite pods in your barbecue to enhance the flavor of whatever you're cooking. And animals love to chew on the pods,” said Peterson.
Rev. Dr. Michele Whittington, senior minister at Creative Living Fellowship, will be the celebrant for the February 13th planting and Andrew Ecker will lead a drumming ceremony.

"Drumming Sounds" lead by Andrew Ecker Partners with Healing Trees
The idea of healing of world around us at times seems like such a huge concept that we can be overwhelmed frustrated and in turned discouraged from even participating in our future we as conscious people realize that we must make a change in the world around us and for me it starts with one beat the very first beat of our day the idea of a beat transcends the communication of music and steps into the world vibration and when we as a community make that conscious decision we become activated into a lifestyle of healing love and peace we make a difference. For us that gather with a heart to heal express peace one thing we can do is drum join an international global community of drummers chanters dancers prayer and vibration warriors to heal our planet and ultimately ourselves one beat a time.
